After a washout of all games the previous weekend, three Sunday teams were able to get on the field this week. Although the All Abilities match was washed out too, they had a spirited session of indoor cricket in the Gillon Oval change rooms. Here are the results for the games that got on.
Sunday D 5/184 v TTS 7/125
After a lot of work with covers, soppers and sand, and even enlisting the help of the other team to shift the water filled covers off the oval, we managed to get a T20 up and running against the Thornbury Turf Strokers at Holbrook Reserve, Brunswick West.
Oddly, no umpires rolled up, so we went into self-management mode, with each batting team providing both central and square leg umpires for their respective batting innings.
We won the toss and chose to bat.
The pitch played pretty well, actually, all things considered. Ruben Powell 28 (15) and Romi Rahman 13 (18) got us off to a great start. Then along came Lincoln Allan with a magnificent 87* (50), well supported by Tom Martin 18 (24) and Ben Pickering 12 (7); all contributing to a very competitive score of 5/184 from our 20 overs.
Our bowlers then went on to do a terrific job too: Chris Pratt, a superb 4/22 (4), excellent work from Ben Pickering 2/19 (4) and Romi Rahman 1/26 (4). Shaik Faisal was very economical across his 3 overs with 0/12 and unlucky not to get a wicket or two.
Our fielding was a vast improvement over our previous encounter with the Strokers: 2 catches each to Matteo Pintore-Deveny (on the gloves - great stuff Teo), Romi Rahman and Ben Pickering and a catch also to the safe hands of Shaik Faisal and very solid fielding performances from the rest of the team.
There were various good-natured verbal contributions from our supporters on the sidelines.
The Strokers fell short of their target, by 60 runs, at 7/125 after their 20 overs.
Great win team - let’s bring it again, this coming weekend, against the Reds.
C'arn the Wicks!

A relatively narrow loss in a high-scoring T20.
Amrit Ghuman 2/36 (3)
Balkarn Singh Sidhu 61 (27), Mickey Singh 71 (49)
