J Nolte 54 A Shah 71

J Nolte 2/1 A Shah 2/15

Brunswick won the toss and elected to bat first at McDonald Reserve on a new deck against Emerald Hill. After a shaky start of 5/66 on what turned out to be a tricky wicket, Abhinav Shah (71) in his first game for Brunswick and Jack Nolte (54) built a 106 run partnership to lead the Wicks to a defendable total of 190.

The Wicks' had a steady start with the ball taking 3/50 including a double wicket maiden for Abhinav (2/15). Some big hitting from a key batsman and a couple of missed opportunities in the field led to a 138 run partnership. After the drinks break saw 3 more wickets fall in a valiant effort by the Wicks' to salvage a victory including a ripper over from Jack (2/1), but unfortunately Emerald Hill made the runs with 4 wickets in hand and 11 overs to spare.

Brunswick sits in 5th place just 5 points outside the top 4, with 3 of the last 5 matches against top 4 teams meaning finals are still well and truly on the cards.

Sunday B 6/217 v Footscray United 70

M Singh 53, S Singh 85 S Mead 32no

C Rowe 3/6 Ballan 3/9 Z Welsh 2/26

Sunday D 8/213 v Parkville District 163

Z Chamberlain 33 D Anderson 58 R Rahman 34

R Rahman 3/26 B Pickering 2/5

Parkville District won the toss and sent us in, no doubt remembering how they dismantled our batting lineup in our previous encounter. However, the Gillon pitch was better than the sheep paddock we played on in Royal Park in November, and we compiled a very competitive 8/213 in our 45 overs. The innings was underpinned by two partnerships (Zach/ Dean and Dean/Romi), plus handy contributions from Max (17*) and Lachie (12*) at the end.

The bowling started well, with Romi claiming a wicket off his first ball. Regular wickets, plus Lachie catching their leading run scorer (82) off Zach's bowling, led to a 50-run win.

Next week we look forward to hosting Youlden-Parkville - always an enjoyable game. And we welcome back our regular skipper Brendan after two weeks with Romi in charge (2 wins from 2 games for Romi).

Carn the Wicks!
